Your teeth are incredibly resilient, but accidents or daily wear and tear can still lead to a cracked tooth. When this happens, ignoring the problem can have serious consequences. Not only might the crack become more severe, but harmful bacteria can easily enter the inner layers of the tooth, increasing the risk of infection and potentially leading to tooth loss. Early intervention is key to preventing these complications and saving your tooth.

Don’t wait until the pain becomes unbearable or the damage worsens. Contact Liv Endodontics today to schedule a consultation with our experienced endodontic team in Livingston. Our endodontists have undergone extensive education and training to specialize in root canals and cracked tooth repairs, ensuring they possess the skills and expertise to handle even the most complex cases.

With Liv Endodontics, you can trust that your care is being managed by professionals dedicated to providing the highest standard of cracked tooth treatment and care.

State-of-the-Art Technology

We believe in utilizing the latest advancements in dental technology to provide the best possible care. Our state-of-the-art facility is equipped with cutting-edge technology that enhances the precision and effectiveness of our treatments:

  • Edge Pro Laser: This advanced laser technology allows for less invasive procedures, reduced pain, and faster healing times. The laser helps in accurately targeting and treating affected areas, minimizing the risk of further damage to the tooth.
  • 3D Imaging: With our 3D imaging technology, we can capture highly detailed images of your teeth and surrounding structures. This allows us to thoroughly assess the extent of the crack and plan a more precise and effective treatment approach.
  • Microscope in Every Treatment Room: Microscopes are crucial in endodontic procedures, enabling our specialists to see tiny details that are not visible to the naked eye. By having microscopes in every treatment room, we ensure that every procedure is carried out with the highest level of accuracy and care.

These technological advancements enable our team to diagnose issues more accurately, plan treatments more effectively, and carry out procedures with greater precision. This not only improves the chances of saving a cracked tooth but also enhances patient comfort and overall experience.

SYMPTOMS OF A CRACKED TOOTH

Sometimes the crack in your tooth will be clearly visible, making the problem easy to identify. However, sometimes the damage will be in an area where it can’t be seen. There are several warning signs that could indicate that you have a hidden crack in your tooth. Call us immediately if you notice any of the following:

  • Pain that occurs when you chew your food.
  • A tooth that’s newly sensitive to hot or cold temperatures.
  • Noticeable swelling around a particular tooth.

While it’s easy to dismiss dental pain as non-urgent when compared to other bodily injuries, these symptoms shouldn’t be ignored; if left untreated, it can lead to even more severe damage that could have been prevented.

WHY DOES MY CRACKED TOOTH HURT SO MUCH?

When you try to chew something with a damaged tooth, the pieces might move, which can irritate the pulp and result in significant discomfort. On top of that, a crack in the tooth provides an opening for harmful bacteria living in your mouth that can lead to an infection, resulting in pain, along with other potential oral health issues if the problem is left alone for too long.

THE TREATMENT PROCESS FOR CRACKED TEETH

First, we evaluate the tooth to see how extensive the damage is. If the crack has reached the pulp of the tooth, then it may be necessary to perform a root canal treatment. Once the pulp has been removed and the interior has been cleaned/disinfected, a crown can be placed over the tooth to strengthen it and prevent the crack from spreading any further.

Our team can give you more details about the cracked tooth treatment process in Livingston after learning more about your specific situation, so be sure to get in touch with us as soon as you can if your tooth is damaged.

Root Canal FAQs

Back in the 1920s, a dentist named Dr. Weston Price claimed that his research proved that it was better to extract the tooth than perform a root canal. There was just one problem: the study he conducted was poorly designed. In fact, this theory has been disproven numerous times over the last several decades for that very reason. Simply put, root canals do NOT make you sick.

Pain is just one symptom of a severely damaged or infected tooth. Dark discoloration on the tooth and bleeding gums are also warning signs that root canal treatment is needed. So, don’t assume that just because you aren’t in pain that everything is fine!

If you need a few days to figure out the financial side of your care, request PTO, and arrange for someone to drive you home from your appointment, that’s perfectly fine! However, you shouldn’t wait much longer than that. If you do, then the root of the problem will continue to worsen to the point where the tooth can no longer be saved, and your surrounding teeth and gums are harmed.

Before the procedure, we will thoroughly numb your mouth so you don’t feel any pain. Of course, this is only temporary, so some soreness once you return home and the numbing agent wears off is to be expected. The good news is that there are several easy ways you can prevent this discomfort from becoming severe, like taking OTC pain medication as directed, placing a cold compress against the outside of your cheek, and sticking to soft foods.

Root canals can usually be prevented, yes! So, if you want to reduce the chances of you needing to come to our office for this emergency dental treatment (or any restorative dental treatment, for that matter) it’s important that you make caring for your smile a priority. That includes brushing for a full two minutes each time, flossing consistently, getting a dental checkup and cleaning semi-annually, and keeping your consumption of added sugar to a minimum.

No, antibiotics are not an adequate replacement for root canal treatment. That’s because – although this medication can eliminate infections in other parts of the body – it can’t address tooth infections.

Note: If you are scared of getting a root canal and want to discuss your other treatment options, don’t hesitate to let us know! We’d be happy to answer any questions you have, provide insight on the benefits of root canal therapy, and find out what we can do to make your experience at our office as positive and anxiety-free as possible.
